Larry's Music & Bands
While the majority of Larry's time was spent in recording studios playing drums for a wide variety of endeavors over the years (artist demos, television or radio commercials, movie or gaming soundtracks and countless other behind-the-scenes music), he did have opportunities to record and play live with some amazing musicians and singers. On this page we want to share some of his favorite music from a select few of those projects that he worked with. As you scroll down the page the song listings will go from most recent to oldest. Kick Tommy is a band that Larry co-founded with guitarist Gary Walton. It featured Chris Rogers on vocals. Besides drumming, Larry produced this album, co-wrote all of the songs, as well as performing backing vocals. The album was mastered by Steve Corrao in Nashville (Sage Audio). The song Cold One was featured in a national Kick Tommy Miller Light ad campaign.
Deaf Symphony was another band that Larry co-founded with guitarist Matt Cerbin. It again featured Chris Rogers on vocals, along with Howard Askeland on guitars. Besides drumming, Larry co-wrote most of the songs and produced both albums, as well as performing backing vocals. Song #10 Say I Do on the Fear the Night album was a song that Larry wrote as his marriage proposal to his wife. Song #9, the title track for the album Chains of Love was part of a promotional campaign for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) and the band was a spokesband for the organization from 2006 - 2011. The Fear the Night album was mixed by legendary producer Beau Hill and mastered by Steve Corrao in Nashville (Sage Audio).
Black Garden was a project that Larry got involved with upon invite from the extremely talented Matt Cerbin. Matt composed, recorded and produced all of the music, played all of the instruments (besides drums) and provided the vocals as well. Predominantly instrumental, it featured a somewhat compressed techno-style mix that we'd classify it as 'Symphonic Goth Metal.' Below are Larry's favorite tracks from the 11-song project. Segments from these songs were featured on the soundtrack for the television mini-series Phantom of the City. Matt and Larry then went on to form the Deaf Symphony project seen/heard above.
The following commercially-released songs come from the variety of artists that Larry recorded and played live with over the years. These are just some of his favorites that he wanted to share from the hundreds of recording artist sessions that he played on over the years in addition to his daily session work. Some of these songs were taken from cassette tapes, which were the only copies he had of some recordings, so we apologize if the quality is lacking in some places.
Songs 1 & 2 are songs that Larry did sessions for and feature singer Johnny Edwards who is an amazing talent. Johnny sang with Montrose, King Kobra, and Buster Brown. Johnny also took over for Lou Gramm after he left the band Foreigner and can be heard on the album Unusual Heat, which was an amazing album. He left Foreigner after a couple of years to raise a family when the grunge music scene sidetracked the new Foreigner.
Songs 3 thru 6 are from sessions that Larry did featuring singer Jeff Scott Soto. Jeff is an extremely versatile and powerful singer and has had a huge amount of commercial success. He is one of Larry's all-time favorite singers. He has provided vocals for Yngwie Malmsteen, Journey, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Sons of Apollo and as a solo artist. He has also contributed vocals to dozens of other well-known bands and guitarists worldwide.
Songs 7 thru 12 were from sessions that Larry did with the band Joshua, featuring world-renowned guitarist Joshua Perahia and singers Rob Rock and Robin Kyle Basuari.
Songs 13 thru 16 feature guitarist Howard Askeland and singer Brenda Barboni and were Larrys first professional sessions after he relocated to Los Angeles in 1986.
